Panic Attacks – Why Does Excessive Anxiety Affect Some People and Not Others

Panic Attacks – Why Does Excessive Anxiety Affect Some People and Not Others

Anxiety is a normal, even common emotion. We experience it whenever we are exposed to a troublesome or uncomfortable situation. If you have to speak in front of a group of people you have probably experienced it. When you met your girlfriends parents you may have experienced it. When you were walking home alone late at night and heard footsteps behind you, you may have experienced it.

Its a feeling that comes and goes with the terrain but when you do experience it you work through it, bite your lower lip and tough it out. Thats what most people do at any rate. For some people the physical sensations and the mental thoughts become so overwhelming that they experience intense panic.

This fear has physical sensations that are so powerful that they may be rendered speechless; unable to breathe, experience such a rapid heartbeat that they feel their heart is going to explode or other problems.

Excessive anxiety, triggered by seemingly normal events can cause such a lack of confidence, that engaging in normal, everyday activities becomes difficult, if not impossible. Its unclear why some people experience these feelings while others do not.

A firefighter can run into a burning building and save a life but you cant choose which head of broccoli looks best in the store without feeling your heart race? This doesnt make any sense, at least until you look to some of the causes for panic.

For people who struggle with excessive worry, the personality type they have inherited from their parents can contribute to their tendency to worry. This predisposition to worry exists like a ticking time bomb. In some people it goes off because of triggering events and in some people the bomb never goes off.

Your inherited personality type and childhood environment are the long term factors that determine how you will respond to stress but the short term causes are what trigger the release of excessive anxiety in your life. Short term causes can be any number of things. For some people, this will be the loss of a spouse, child or family member, for other people it could be the loss of a job or the end of an important relationships.

Seemingly happy events can also cause stress triggers such as having a baby, getting married or moving. These changes bring about significant changes in your life and can increase your stress and worry.

Once anxiety has been allowed to creep through that open door, it is hard to get rid of. Its very hard to tell how you will respond to any given event. Losing a child, spouse or family member is shattering for everyone. Everyone responds to this personal loss with great sorrow, anxiety and depression.

Many people are eventually able to go on, struggle through the day and regain their former life. The suffering is normal and part of life. Whats not normal is that anxiety so overwhelms you for such a long period of time that you cant engage in anything anymore.

At some point, pain and worry should pass and if it doesnt you may be dealing with a more significant problem than your personal loss. The same goes for losing a job, moving, getting married, having a baby. These events may disrupt the normal rhythm of your life but you should be able to regain a footing and proceed with your new life without excessive anxiety after awhile.

The negative shouldnt be lurking behind every corner. Its important to consult a doctor if you feel you are struggling with sustained, excessive and unwanted anxiety.

Caregiver Burnout

Life can be quite unforgiving for some people, mostly for no fault of theirs. These people are entrusted with an endless duty of caring for their ailing family member. An old parent suffering from Alzheimer’s, a child suffering from Down’s syndrome or a spouse bed ridden due to a terrible accident or illness, can all cause you to give up your own life and care for them for the rest of your life. Caregiver burnout is a condition wherein a person stops having a life of his own and is entailed for a lifetime of depression and anxiety. Steps must be taken to overcome this condition immediately, unless you wish to employ a caregiver for yourself.

Signs of Caregiver Burnout

As mentioned above caregiving incessantly for an ailing family member can take its toll upon you. The incessant demands of the ailing person, your own high expectations from yourself and your physical limitations can become a cause of persistent feeling of worthlessness and guilt. It is very difficult to come out of this situation unless you admit that there is a problem and are willing to take measures to overcome it. You should know you are in for a caregiver burnout when you experience any or all of these symptoms of caregiver burnout.
Harmful behavior towards oneself or the ailing loved one.
Persistent gloominess.
A haunting feeling that your life is no more yours.
Always on the verge of tears.
Always snapping and annoyed at the care recipient.
Change in eating habits, resulting in unwanted weight gain or loss.
Change in sleeping pattern with either inability to fall asleep or a constant feeling of sleep deprivation.
Listless attitude towards life.
Loss of interest in your favorite activities with friends.
Persistent feeling of worthlessness and guilt.
Thoughts of death or suicide.
Minor physical problems like headache, back pain, etc.
Panic attacks or anxiety.
Completely negative approach towards life. Nothing in life seems good enough for you. If you answer in positive to the above symptoms, perhaps it’s time for you to take remedial steps.

What Can You Do About Caregiver Burnout

Remember, caregiver burnout is not a physical problem. You may call it a neurological problem, which can be corrected by adopting a correct attitude. The first step towards resolving this issue is the acceptance to the problem. You can then seek help from an expert or you can resolve it yourself.

Know Your Limitations
Unrealistic expectations are bound to bring in a lot of disappointment. Hence, bear in mind that you cannot always do everything that you or your loved one might expect from you. There will be times, when you may not be able to get things done. During such times, appreciate yourself for what you have been able to accomplish, instead of cribbing over those you didn’t.

Decrease Your Care Recipient’s Reliance on You
If your loved one is in a position to interact with you, you can always involve them in decision making. Let them decide for themselves what they wish to eat, how they want to dress up. This will decrease their reliance upon you for every small thing. Moreover, it may even give them a sense of worthiness, which may improve their condition.

Start Having a Life of Your Own
You need not feel guilty about giving yourself some time. After all the hard work, you sure deserve a quality time with yourself. Set aside some time in a week to indulge in your favorite activity or just meet up with your old friends. Read a book, go to Church, listen to good music to de-stress yourself. Take good care of yourself by eating healthy, exercising and leading a good life. Whatever happens, do not forget to have at least 15 minutes of ‘me time’ at the end of the day.

You can find support groups that will enable you to cope with the condition of caregiver burnout in a better way. Do not feel embarrassed or guilty to seek help from a therapist. Remember, you too deserve a good life!

Knowing Anxiety and Panic Attacks-The 7 Different Disorders of the Brain

Knowing Anxiety and Panic Attacks-The 7 Different Disorders of the Brain

Knowing more about something can help you reason it out and find ways to battle through it. Knowing anxiety and panic attacks is a bummer because if probably means you have experienced it too, but can help you overcome it. All the same I sure could have done without it.

I have learned a lot about Anxiety and Panic Attacks throughout the course of my life because I had my first attack when I was only fourteen years old. The attacks increased in number and intensity until I could no longer hide it and to put it plain, I could no longer deal with it. It was just way too embarrassing and far too humiliating for me to go outside and be a normal person. I was afraid something would happen and just stayed indoors. I became a reading and writing addict.

However, eventually the time came where I had no choice, I had to go out. I was put on medications and, at first the problem seemed to be solved. Just by looking back, it seems so clear that medication was not the answer. At least, not alone, medication all by itself is only a temporary fix. Treatment alongside medication is what is recommended for the more intense conditions.

I was content with just taking a pill and did not want to talk about my problem. That, in and of itself was a problem and eventually, became the problem. This is something you will want to avoid because the anxiety and panic attacks increase exponentially in both frequency and intensity.

Sometimes Psychiatric medications are necessary but should be kept to a minimum or, if at all possible, avoided entirely. Anti-Anxiety medication can be fast acting and 100% effective but is severely habit forming and physically addictive. The problem, is that after a short period of time, they become less affective and it then requires more of the medication for it to work. This will spiral out of control before you know it and then your condition will become twice as intense as it once was. This is a whole new hell that I wold not wish on anyone.

Before you can learn how to overcome your problem, you need to know all that you can about general disorders, what they are, how they effect the brain, the basic symptoms and the root causes that come along with them. There are seven different kinds of disorders that are directly related to anxiety and panic attacks.

There are seven different types of disorders connected to Anxiety and Depression.

Pure Anxiety which is based on excessive activity in the basal ganglia.

Pure Depression based on excessive activity in the Deep Limbic System or(D.L.S.).

Mixed Anxiety and Depression is based on excessive activity in the basal ganglia and the D.L.S..

Over focused Anxiety/Depression Based on excessive activity in the Anterior Cingulate Gyrus, the basal ganglia and/or the deep limbic system.

Cyclic Anxiety/Depression based on focal (a discrete area) increased activity in the deep limbic system and/or in the basal ganglia.

Temporal lobe Anxiety/Depression based on increased or decreased activity in the temporal lobes and increased activity in the basal ganglia and/or Deep Limbic System.

Finally, the seventh and last is the type which I am afflicted with. Unfocused Anxiety/Depression based on decreased activity in the prefrontal cortex(P.F.C.) and increased activity in the basal ganglia and/or D.L.S.

A lot of these disorders are just a small variation of the original pure Anxiety and Panic disorders but the difference is crucial when it comes to applying effective treatments. Many of these disorders are becoming more common. There is a always a noticeable rise in anxiety and panic attacks whenever the economy takes a dive. This is suggestive of a much more intensive problem based on society as a whole. We place too much emphasis on money and material things.

I know that when you have your first experience with these anxiety and panic attacks you will think you are going crazy and this will actually increase the intensity of the attack. These attacks are difficult enough without any thing amplifying them. The important thing to know is that your not crazy and that having a brain disorder has very little to do with the amount of intelligence someone has.

The general root of what the word disease comes from meaning is Dis-Ease. Meaning just that disease or uneasy feeling. This relates really well with anxiety or panic attacks. Whatever you do try not to let this be an excuse for you to stop living your life. This is what I did for many years and the simple truth is there is no one to blame but myself.

You can live your life regardless of any disease or ailment. The problem is finding the treatment that is best for you and learning all you can about whatever the problem is. This will give you an advantage against whatever it is that is bothering you. Keep in mind that the greater a challenge a person faces the greater the triumph in what ever it is that they achieve.

In fact many of our most influential and prominent thinkers throughout the history of our world were plagued with every kind of mental disorder you can think of. So even if you sometimes feel a little out of touch or if you have been recently diagnosed with a mental illness and are feeling overwhelmed, do not let it get you too down. The important thing to realize is that you are not alone and there is hope. This will not stop you from becoming anything that you want to become.

Nothing stopped Abraham Lincoln, Isaac Newton, Vincent Van Gogh, Einstein, James Joyce, Edgar Allen Poe, or Beethoven. Surprised to learn they were all diagnosed with mental disorders? You would be even more surprised then, because these are just to name a very small few. Look at what they achieved in life! Anxiety and panic attacks are a very serious illness, not to mention fairly common. So the next time you feel as though your singled out, think again. Moreover, in this life that we are all living there is simply no one better than anyone else. This is a fact.

Learn to quickly and effectively stop Anxiety and Panic Attacks without damaging drugs by using cutting edge treatments and methods that work.

You can overcome your anxiety and depression. Check out this site see what they can do–>Knowing Anxiety and Panic Attacks The earlier you begin, the better off you will be in the long run. Anxiety problems can cause other health problems if left untreated.

Panic disorder, Anxiety, and D-cycloserine Thinking Outside of the Box

Panic disorder, Anxiety, and D-cycloserine Thinking Outside of the Box

Necessity could be the mother of invention.- Always works best for me. Seemingly it works for psychiatric research, also. That is certainly an excellent because I’ve become frustrated and puzzled by the lack of research and treatment attention panic disorder, each of the anxiety disorders as an example, receives.

Panic, as well as the panic disorders, so frequently require a back seat, especially on the mood disorders. And that’s odd given the fact that the panic attacks include the most prevalent from the mind variances, and thus many sufferers of anxiety have a very mood disorder comorbidity.

Stepping off my soapbox, here’s some very creativity that offers me renewed confidence and hope. Using meds and psychotherapy being a punch combo to combat a mind variance isn’t anything new. For example, a panic disorder sufferer participating in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) gets known a psychiatrist and begins choosing a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Happens constantly, though not necessarily efficacious.

But what if there was clearly a far more creative boxing strategy? Let’s say instead of meds and therapy doing its job a jab/cross combo, they teamed to get one massive knockout punch? Well, tune-in because this is cool.

D-cycloserine is surely an antibiotic that’s most commonly known as being a back-up treatment for tuberculosis. But, go figure, it’s shown efficacy within the treating phobias. And it’s also provided relief when found in augmentation with psychotherapy inside the treating depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and even schizophrenia. Well, it appears you might be capable of add panic disorder fot it list, especially inside context of exposure operate in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

Just how does an antibiotic provide relief for panic? Well, one of several characteristics of D-cycloserine belongs to a partial agonist of your receptor for glutamate. Glutamate is regarded as the abundant excitatory neurotransmitter in mammals, and an agonist is a manufactured or naturally sourced drug that triggers action coming from a neuron. The impact of glutamate is assumed being operating out of sensory-related fear extinction within the amygdala. Obviously, the amygdala is our emotion/fear headquarters.

If you decide to really think about it, the D-cycloserine jobs are really a matter of enhancing a learning process. And yes it would make perfect sense which a dosage of D-cycloserine can be administered one-hour prior to a CBT session. Is certainly not wild? It’s just like a pre-game warm-up for your brain.

Though, to my knowledge, usage of D-cycloserine hasn’t gone after dark lab, this really is thrilling and provides a lot of expect a lot of reasons. First and foremost, there’s every reason to believe the therapy can provide relief. And, secondly, it’s proof that some very creative thinking is going on on earth of psychiatric research. It’s like a football coach revising offensive and defensive strategy, as well as the plan, because he knows his player talent level is low.

-Necessity could be the mother of invention.- Thank goodness for thought outside the box.
